CHENNAI: Medium-pacer Sandeep Warrier’s hat-trick (3-20) and left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore (4-2-2-4) shone for Chepauk Super Gillies as they scored a 60-run run win over Tiruppur Tamizhans in their TNPL-6 clash at Salem on Friday.
Batting first, Chepauk scored 133-9 riding left-hander U Sasidev’s 29-ball 45. In reply, Sandeep and Sai Kishore helped Chepauk bowl out their opposition for 73.
In pursuit of 134, Tiruppur kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sandeep Warrier dismissed Tushar Raheja (11) — caught Sai Kishore at long-on and cleaned up Suresh Kumar (0) — in the fifth and six deliveries of his third over. In the first ball of his fourth over, Sandeep got rid of M Mohammed (4) — caught by U Sasidev at point region — to complete his hat-trick. On the other hand, Sai Kishore was brilliant with the ball as he accounted for S Aravind (10), R Rajkumar (0), Francis Rokins (8) and Aswin Crist (0). Others to shine for the winners include left-arm spinner R Alexander (2-25) and Sonu Yadav (1-10).
Earlier, Sasidev’s innings helped Chepauk finish with a fighting total. His knock contained 3 fours and 2 sixes. Tiruppur bowlers called the shots from the word go and reduced Chepauk 60 for 5 in the 11th over. Sasidev led a charmed life as he was dropped twice — on 5 by Maan Bafna at mid-wicket and by keeper Tushar Raheja on 9. Sasidev made full use of those drops to help his side finish with a score that looked unlikely when he arrived at the crease.
Tiruppur were guilty of dropping three chances — twice off Harish Kumar () and Sasidev once — in the 15th over bowled by leg-spinner S Manigandan (2-21). Medium-pacer Aswin Crist (3-30) and left-arm spinner Mohan Prasath (2-19) did the damage early and accounted for Chepauk’s top-order.
Brief scores: Chepauk Super Gillies 133-9 in 20 overs (U Sasidev 45 n.o.; Aswin Crist 3-30, Mohan Prasath 2-19, Manigandan 2-21). Tiruppur Tamizhans 73 in 19.3 overs (Sai Kishore 4-2, Sandeep Warrier 3-20). Chepauk won by 60 runs
